The extractive-photometric determination of Iron(III), vanadium(V) and molybdenum(V) as mixed complexes with thiocyanate and N-hydroxy-N-(p-chlorophenyl)-N′-(2,3-dimethylphenyl)-p-toluamidine hydrochloride

Summary

N-Hydroxy-N- (p- chlorophenyl)-N′-(2,3-dimethylphenyl)-p-toluamidine hydrochloride reacts with Fe3+, V5+ and Mo5+ in thiocyanate media, giving water-insoluble mixed complexes, extractable into benzene. The large differences in the analytical conditions for formation of the mixed complexes of these elements affords a simple, rapid and sensitive extraction-photometric method for determination of these elements at microgram levels. Cr3+, Mn2+, W6+, Ti4+ and Zr4+ do not interfere. The method has been applied for determination of these elements in artificial mixtures.
