Information content of trace analysis results

Summary

To find the information content of the results of trace analysis, the equation

$$I(p/p_0 ) = \int\limits_0^{ + \infty } p (x) ln\frac{{p (x)}}{{p_0 (x)}}dx$$

is used, wherep (x) is the probability density of the distribution of the results, and the probability densitypo (x) characterises preliminary information about the content of the constituent to be determined in the sample analysed. The dependence of the determination limit and precision of trace analysis on the information content of the results are shown.

Zusammenfassung

Zur Ermittlung des Informationsgehaltes der Ergebnisse von Spurenanalysen wurde das Divergenzmaß

$$I(p/p_0 ) = \int\limits_0^{ + \infty } p (x) ln\frac{{p (x)}}{{p_0 (x)}}dx$$

angewendet, worinp (x) die Wahrscheinlichkeitsdichte der Ergebnisverteilung ist und die Wahrscheinlichkeitsdichtepo (x) unsere vorläufige Kenntnis über den Gehalt des zu bestimmenden Spurenbestandteiles in der analysierten Probe charakterisiert. Auf den Zusammenhang der Bestimmungsgrenze, und der Genauigkeit der Spurenanalyse mit dem Informationsgehalt des Ergebnisses wurde hingewiesen.
