Determination of Mixtures Containing Amines and Dithiocarbamates

Summary

A convenient and accurate method is described for the analysis, in the same sample solution, of mixtures containing amines and dithiocarbamates. The mixture solution in dimethylformamide is treated with an excess of phenyl isothiocyanate whereby amines are converted to the corresponding substituted thioureas. Non-aqueous redox titration of dithiocarbamate with iodine monobromide followed by decomposition of thiuram disulphide with an acid, and subsequent aqueous redox titration of the substituted thiourea, enable the mixture to be analysed for both components.

Zusammenfassung

Ein genaues Verfahren zur Analyse von Gemischen aus Aminen und Dithiocarbamaten wurde beschrieben. Das in Dimethylformamid gelöste Gemisch wird mit überschüssigem Phenylisothiocyanat behandelt, wodurch die Amine in die entsprechend substituierten Thioharnstoffverbindungen übergeführt werden. Eine Redoxtitration des Dithiocarbamats mit Jod-monobromid in nichtwäßrigem Milieu mit nachfolgender Zerlegung des Thiuramdisulfids mit einer Säure und die darauffolgende Redoxtitration des substituierten Thioharnstoffs in wäßriger Phase geben die Möglichkeit, beide Komponenten des Gemisches nebeneinander zu bestimmen.
