Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Summary

  1. 1.

A method for the synthesis of mized alkyl orthoritanates has been developed; it consists in the action of alcohols on alkoxychlorotitaniums in presence of pyridine and ammonia.

  2. 2.

Another method for the synthesis of mixed alkyl orthotitanates has been developed: it consists in the action of titanium tetrachloride on a mixture of alcohol in presence of pyridine and ammonia.

  3. 3.

Members of a previously undescribed class of compounds have been prepared: triisopentyl isopropyl orthotitanate, ethyl isopentyl cithotitanate, allyl triisepentyl orthotitanate, triisopentyl propyl orthotitanate, isopentyl tripopyl orthotitanate, trially isopentyl orthotitanate, and diallyl diisopentyl orthoritenate.

When this paper was already prepared for publication, an article [8] appeared in which the preparation of some dialkyl diaryl orthotitanates by the partial transesterification of tetrabutyl orthotitanate is described. The products described, however, were not purified in any way. and the analytical results given for titanium are in good agreement also with an equimolecular mixture of the corresponding symmetrical alkyl orthotitanates. In the same paper the author refers to his preparation of 2-chloroethyl orthotitanate and benzyl orthotitanate, substances already described by its in 1951 [4].
