A ribonucleoprotein group with species- and tissue-specific biological activity

II. Tissue-specific action on the transcription and immunological properties of the RNP group

Summary

The RNP group reported here is involved in tissue- and species-specific stimulation of template activity of chromatinin vitro. Template activity of calf thymus chromatin can be enhanced by the RNP isolated from calf thymus up to 300 %. Against this RNP group species- and tissue-specific antibodies can be produced. These antibodies cause a species- and tissue-specific inhibition of the transcription. Antibodies against chromatin and non-histone protein-DNA complex from chick's oviduct produced by Chytil and Spelsberg [6] show a cross reaction with RNP's isolated from chick's oviduct in the Ouchterlony test.
