Abstract
Field investigations conducted over the period 1988–1993 proved large variations in daily SO2, total sulphur and trace metals concentrations over the Sudeten within the Polish part of the Black Triangle. Special attention should be paid to the concentrations of such trace metals as zinc and cadmiun. A detailed analysis of a synoptic chart for central Europe in the days with SO2 episodes as well as in the days preceding and following them allowed us to separate two general categories of meteorological conditions that can result in the occurrence of high pollutant concentrations, a slowly moving high pressure system or a weather front.
