Abstract
N-1-Oxythymine (IV) has been prepared in two different ways, one of which proves the structure. The same applies to N-3-oxy-5-methylcytosine (X). Attempts to deaminate X to give N-3-oxythymine XV failed. However, XV can be obtained by selective chlorination of the hydroxyl group at position 6 of 5-methyl-3-benzyloxybarbituric acid (XII), followed by debenzylation and removal of the chloro substituent by reduction. *** DIRECT SUPPORT *** A3615112 00007
