Abstract
It is very difficult to obtain pure LiCN from Li and HCN; by dissolving in tetrahydrofurane and re-precipitating one gets a nearly colourlessTHF-solvate, from which the solvent may be easily removed. A far better method for preparation of the salt avoiding the use of anhydrous HCN is the reaction of Li with AgCN inTHF in presence of naphthalene. The product is absolutely colourless. Using twice the amount of AgCN one gets the complex Li[Ag(CN)2] in the form of theTHF-Solvate. *** DIRECT SUPPORT *** A3615112 00004
