Conclusions

  1. 1.

The mineralocorticoid function of the adrenal cortex in rats is characterized by sex-related differences: in females the functional activity of the glomerular zone is higher than in males.

  2. 2.

In old age, in animals of both sexes the rate of aldosterone secretion decreases.

  3. 3.

In old animals the hypothalamo-hypophyseal control of the mineralocorticoid function of the adrenal cortex weakens.

  4. 4.

In old animals the sensitivity of the glomerular zone to corticotropin, vasopressin, and potassium ions increases. At the same time the range of reactions on increase in the dose of humoral regulatory factors narrows in old age.

  5. 5.

The sensitivity of tissues to aldosterone increases with age, which is associated with an increase in the affinity of the receptor cell systems to the hormone.
