Vectored diffusion in compressible laminar boundary layers

Summary

The vectored mass transfer of a light-weight high-thermal-capacity foreign fluid into the compressible laminar boundary layer of a free stream around a surface body is studied. We assess the effects of the injection orientation on velocity profile, temperature profile, skin friction, mass and heat transfer rates. The results are valid for plane and axisymmetric geometries. Whereas an upstream injection can quickly cause flow instability, downstream injection can considerably reduce the skin friction and, also, for highly heated surfaces and hypersonic Mach numbers, the heat transfer rate. Mass transfer is also considerably enhanced by downstream injection.
