Cleavage of the barene nucleus and formation of the inner salt of C,C′-bis(aminomethyl) dicarbaun-decaborane occurs when 1,2-bis(halomethyl)barenes are reacted with aqueous ammonia solution.

Cleavage of the barene nucleus and formation of the inner salt of C-diethylaminodicarbaundecaborane also occurs when 1-chloromethylbarene is reacted with alcoholic diethylamine solution.
