Summary
-
1.
A study was made of the reactions of tetrafluoroethylene, chlorotrifluoroethylene, trifluoroethylene, and hexafluoropropene with sulfur trioxide.
-
2.
Fluoro olefins and sulfur trioxide (α-modification) react in equimolecular proportions with formation of fluorine-containing β-sultones.
-
3.
The addition of sulfur trioxide to fluoro olefins occurs in the direction corresponding to the polarities of the reactants.
