Summary
-
1.
A study was made of the polycondensation of 1,2-dichloroethane with tetralin in presence of aluminum chloride, and the main features of the process were established.
-
2.
On the basis of X-ray-structure analysis it was established that the product formed in the first stage of the polycondensation of 1,2-dichloroethane with tetralin is 1,2-di-2-tetralylethane [1,2-bis(5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-2-naphthylethane].
-
3.
It was found that no three-dimensional products are formed in the polycondensation of 1,2-dichloroethane with tetralin, in spite of the fact that the potential functionality of retralin is four.
-
4.
It was shown that the polymer [poly(ar-ethylenetetralyl) does not undergo association in benzene solution at concentration of up to 10 g per 100 ml.
