Summary
-
1.
The kinetics of the acidolysis reaction of ethyl stearate with succinic and adipic acids have been investigated at 122, 168, 183, and 250°.
-
2.
It is shown that the reaction of acidolysis by dicarboxylic acids may proceed even without a catalyst; however, sulfuric acid considerably increases the reaction rate.
-
3.
It has been found that the molar ratio of ester and dicarboxylic acid taken has an effect on the percent conversion of the acid during acidolysis. The higher this ratio, the further the reaction goes.
-
4.
It is shown that the acidolysis reaction is of great importance in the polyesterification process.
