Summary
-
1.
The results are given of a study of alloys of one section of the iron - chromium - nickel - manganese quaternary system, in which measurements were made of the electrical resistance and the hardness at room temperature, and of the heat-strength at 800°.
-
2.
The composition -heat-strength diagram for the alloys of this system shows that in the region of the quaternary λ solid solution the heat-strength markedly increases with the chromium content of the solid solution. An increase in the chromium content above the saturation limit or into the region of the λ +α phases leads to a sharp reduction in the deformation resistance of the alloys at 800°.
-
3.
The hardness of the heterogeneous alloys (λ + α phases) at room temperature sharply increases with an increase in the chromium content, but the heat-strength of the alloys in the same heterogeneous region is sharply reduced.
-
4.
An increase in the manganese content of the quaternary solid solutions results in a slight increase in the heat-strength of these alloys.
