Synthesis and structure of the betaine system of 2-hydrazino-3,4,6-trichloro-5-cyanopyridine and diazomethane

Abstract

Upon reaction of 2-hydrazino-3, 4, 6-trichloro-S-cyanopyridine with diazomethane, we obtain a betaine system, 1-trimethyl-2-(3,4,6-trichloro-5-cyanopyrid-2 yl)hydrazin-l-io-2-ide, the structure of which has been established by x-ray diffraction. We calculate the electronic structure of the betaine using the CNDO/3 method.
