Summary
-
1.
The introduction of acetyl and p-nitrophenyl groups into the ferrocene nucleus greatly reduces the ability of hydrogens of the ferrocene nucleus to undergo aromatic-substitution reactions (arylation with diazo compounds, mercuration, and acylation).
-
2.
Reaction of diacetylferrocene with diazo compounds leads to breakdown of the ferrocene nucleus and formation of substances considered tentatively to be acetyl(arylazo)cyclopentadienes.
