Summary

  1. 1.

An investigation was made of the compositions of polycondensation products of glycine ethyl ester at various stages of reaction with additions of carbon dioxide at initial concentrations relative to the amount of monomer of 0.01, 0.02, 0.04 and 0.08.

  2. 2.

It was shown that the reaction mixture contains very little glycylglycine ethyl ester because the rate at which it is formed is lower than the rate at which it is transformed into piperazinedione and diglycylglycine ethyl ester.

  3. 3.

A study was made of the effect of the initial carbon dioxide concentration on the piperazinedione and tripeptide ester contents at different stages of reaction.

  4. 4.

In the first stages of reaction the principal part is played by addition of monomer to peptide esters, whereas the reaction of peptide esters among themselves has no effect on the course of reaction.
