Abstract

The title compound is the product of the photo-induced solid-state reaction of 2-(p-chloro)-benzyl-5-benzylidenecyclopentanone, a reaction which is shown to occur in a single-crystal to single-crystal fashion. The cell parameters of the dimer are very close to those of the monomer, with both structures belonging to the same space group. The finalR was 0.044 for 1551 reflections withF o>2σ(Fo). The compound has the molecular structure which is expected for the product of a topochemical reaction within the perfect monomer crystal. The packing of the dimer is compared with that of the monomer and found to be very similar.
