Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

Abstract

Welded joints of high-strength titanium alloys are characterized by low properties of the weld and the heat-affected zone (HAZ). Heat treatment can improve these properties, especially in heat-affected zones. Heat treatment by standard regimes improves the properties of welded joints, but the weld and the HAZ usually have lower mechanical characteristics than the base metal and are still the most dangerous zones of welded joints. Therefore methods and regimes of heat treatment have to be developed in order to improve the properties and the weld and the HAZ and hence the entire welded structure.
