Abstract
Esters and diesters of α-oximino carboxylic acids and α-oximino dicarboxylic acids with o-phenylene diamine in alcoholic hydrogen chloride solution yield the corresponding 3-alkyl-2-quinoxalones and esters of ω-[2-quinoxalonyl-(3)] carboxylic acids. For methyl γ-[2-quinoxalonyl-(3)] butyrate saponification and hydrazide and hydrazone formation are described. Similarly to o-phenylene diamine, 1.2-diamino-naphthalene yields 2-alkyl benzo[f]quinoxalones-(3) and esters of ω-[benzoquinoxalon-(2)-yl-(3)] carboxylic acids. The formation of isomeric benzo derivatives is discussed.
