Conclusions
The 3BF3·2CH2C1COOH+BF3-2CH3COOH system effectively catalyzes the selective carbonylation of propylene and n-butylenes. At 95–105°C and a CO pressure of 200 atm, with an equimolar ratio catalyst∶olefin∶ water, propylene or mixed n-butylenes give isobutyric orα-methylbutyric acid in near-quantitative yield.
