1.
Methods of degradation of carboxylic acids by one carbon atom by oxidizing the corresponding diketenes by potassium permanganate have been developed.
-
2.
The transformation of decanoyl chloride into pelargonic acid via intermediate stages of oxidative splitting of α-hydroxydecanoic acid by KMnO4 and chromic mixture, or oxidation by alkaline H2O2 of a product of a Friedel-Crafts reaction of α-bromodecanoyl chloride with toluene, were studied.
