Halogenation of highly electrophilic fluorine-containing unsaturated compounds

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    The addition of chlorine or bromine to the C=C double bond of highly electrophilic fluorine-containing unsaturated compounds such as perfluoroisobutylene and the acid fluoride and esters of perfluoromethacrylic acid is facilitated by the use of a polar solvent (acetonitrile) and is significantly accelerated by base catalysis using pyridine.

  2. 2.

    N,N-Dialkylamides of perfluoromethacrylic acid and esters of pentafluoroisopropenylphosphonic acid readily add chloride in carbon tetrachloride in the absence of a catalyst.
