Summary
-
1.
The catalytic transformations of cyclopentane, methylcyclopentane, and ethylcyclopentane were studied in presence of platinum deposited on aluminum silicate under atmospheric pressure at 200–270°.
-
2.
In the range 200–235° the hydrogenolysis of cyclopentane and methylcyclopentane goes selectively, which makes it possible to determine the apparent activation energies of these reactions.
-
3.
For ethylcyclopentane conditions could not be found under which hydrogenolysis goes selectively. Under the given conditions the main direction taken by the transformations of ethylcyclopentane is its isomerization to methylcyclohexane.
-
4.
The temperature coefficient of the isomerization reaction is lower than that for the dehydrogenation of methylcyclohexane. In the range 230–270° the extent of the hydrogenolysis of ethylcyclopentane diminishes some-what with rise in temperature.
