Biotechnology Letters Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

Leached beet cosette is a plentiful residue of the sugar beet industry in Chile currently used as a low-grade feedstock for ruminants. Results are presented on the fermentation of the untreated and acid pretreated residue with the cellulolytic fungusTrichoderma reesei. Substrate yield and productivity are evaluated and compared for the two processes. Product quality is assesed with the aim of formulating a protein-enriched feedstock for monogastric animals.
