Summary

  1. 1.

    The lactonization of trans-4,5-dibromo-cis-1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid (I) was studied, and the configuration of the bromo γ-lactone acid (IV) formed was proved.

  2. 2.

    The isomeric monoesters of 4,5-dibromo-1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid were synthesized, and the stereochemistry of their lactonization was studied.
