Nitrogen impurity centers in synthetic diamond powder

Theoretical and Experimental Chemistry Aims and scope

Abstract

The ESR spectrum is reported for the nitrogen donors in polycrystalline synthetic diamond at room temperature; g is 2.0025±0.005. The moments method is used to examine the unsymmetrical secondary peaks, which give the constants for the coupling between the electron and the nuclear magnetic moment; these agree satisfactorily with those for a single crystal of natural diamond. The nitrogen donor concentration is found to be 1018–1019 cm−3. The IR spectrum has a band at 9.1Μ, which is more prominent for the synthetic material; this appears to be due to multiple nitrogen centers.
