Conclusions

A method of synthesizing the neutron-field regulator of a reactor with the aid of the theory of optimal control has been proposed. The method is based upon the determination of the matrix of the inverse feedback (structure of the regulator) by solving the Ricatti matrix equation.

An analysis of the results has shown that the structure of the optimal regulator depends importantly upon the real parameters of the control conditions. Therefore, for a synthesis in terms of engineering, the calculation of the regulator by iteration must be recommended; in this case, a priori values of the weight coefficients in the conditions are improved via the results of numerical modelling of transition processes in the system.

Obviously, the means of digital computing provide the best technical base for building an optimal regulator. In addition to simplicity, it is possible to automatically tune the structure of the regulator when the control conditions change (are refined) and also when the sensors or executing components fail.
