Abstract
There is a high incidence of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in the U.S. (200/100,000), primarily affecting young people between the ages of 15 to 24. The physical, cognitive, and behavioral sequelae of TBI can indirectly impact upon sexuality and sexual expression. This manuscript describes issues faced by counselors, families, and patients when dealing with TBI and sexuality. Case examples are used to illustrate counseling approaches, and adaptations in treatment technique when working with persons with TBI.
