Preliminary studies on the Styrax oil

Abstract

The preliminary results presented in this paper throw some light on the oil content of seeds inStyrax officinalis L. In general the oil content amounts to 50%. As for the physical properties of the oil, it is a viscous fluid, slightly yellow in colour, tasteless and has a good flavour. The oil analysis by gas chromatography shows the presence of six fatty acids.

Zusammenfassung

Das Ziel dieser Voruntersuchung war es, den Ölgehalt vonStyrax officinalis L. zu bestimmen. Im allgemeinen enthalten die Samen bis zu 50% Öl. Die physikalischen Eigenschaften des Öles sind: zähflüssig, hellgelb, geschmacklos und angenehmer Geruch. Bei der gaschromatographischen Analyse des Öles wurden sechs Fettsäuren gefunden.

Résumé

L'objet de ce travail préliminaire est de présenter notre connaissance actuelle en ce qui concerne le contenu en huile des graines deStyrax officinalis L.

La quantité d'huile des graines est en général de %50. Les propriétés de l'huile peuvent être ainsi résumées: c'est un liquide visqueux, de couleur jaunâtre, sans goût et d'odeur agréable. On a pu constater, par l'analyse chromatographique de gaz que le contenu de l'huile dans les graines est composé de six acides gras.
