Choice of parameters in the Gaussian beam method

Abstract

We consider the effect of the arbitrary parameters in the Gaussian beam expressions. An exactly solvable problem is used to demonstrate how the applicability of the Gaussian beam method may be extended by an appropriate choice of parameters for a fixed frequency.
