Creative educational use of existing community resources

Abstract

Through the creative use of existing community resources, a large urban university has created an undergraduate program providing a balanced exposure of theoretical studies, research and clinical experience, and demonstrating the critical relationship between theory and practice.

Evaluation of the Program and its impact on students revealed near ideal results. The success is most likely attributed to use of a mixture of learning strategies and acknowledgement of the obvious and the not-too-obvious, in addition to use of community resources.
