Abstract

Imploding shock waves can be obtained in various ways [1, 2], but they are not always stable [3]. The present paper reports an experimental study in inert gases of imploding cylindrical shock waves obtained by means of a pulsed induction discharge. The interaction of the shock waves with the gas-discharge plasma was investigated. A description is given of an experiment with a rectangular discharge chamber in which imploding shock waves having a complicated cross section arise.
