Summary
Study of CMC fermentation by a marine syntrophic association of an anaerobic cellulose-degrader, a carbohydrate-fermenter, and a methanogen. Altered fermentation pattern in general agreement with the concept of interspecies hydrogen transfer was obtained only with pregrowth of methanogen followed by inoculation of the two fermentative bacteria.
