Summary

  1. 1.

The total acidity of iron phosphate, equal to 0.10–0.15 mequiv/g, was determined.

  2. 2.

The alkylation of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, isopropylbenzene, chlorobenzene, and phenol with sec- and tert-monoalkyl halides was conducted in the presence of iron orthophosphate. The isomeric monoalkylaryls were isolated in yields from 38 to 73% of the theoretical. Dialkyl derivatives (up to 3%) were isolated only in the alkylation of benzene.
