A clinical and statistical follow-up study of atrophic gastritis

Abstract

A study was made of 363 patients 11 to 18 years after initial biopsies and gastric secretory findings. Investigation of the cause of death revealed the development of gastric carcinoma in 13% of the cases which had prior findings of atrophic gastritis. Statistical analysis of the cases led to additional evidence that atrophic gastritis may constitute a predisposition for the development of gastric malignant tumors.
