Abstract

For metallic cylinders with a conductivity σ=1018 s−1 and length to radius ratios in the range 3×104 to 3×105 the Mie-type solution for the absorption coefficient merges smoothly, with a domain of overlap, into the Rayleigh solution. The absorption effects are then shown to be rigorously determined at all wavelengths. A cosmological application is briefly discussed.
