Abstract

In evaluating the results obtained, the following conclusions can be drawn: the described method of evaluating wetting of the surface of a carbon filler is efficient for evaluating the surface properties of reinforcing fillers and allows rapidly determining the quality of surface treatment: substitution of filaments by twisted carbon braids or fibres decreases the laboriousness of the experiment and accelerates obtaining the final result; the results obtained are in agreement with the data on filaments; the use of reference liquids allows calculating the surface energy of the reinforcing fillers and their constituents — disperse and polar; the error of the contact angle of wetting introduced by the unevenness of the twisted surface and the residual capillary effect of the closely compressed fibres in the twist is minimal and systematic and does not affect the indirect evaluation of the quality state or special treatment of the surface of the fibres. The described method of evaluating the surface properties of carbon fibres can also be used for thin fibres of a different nature.
