Abstract
Manganese applied as foliar sprays prevented the onset of manganese deficiency inLupinus angustifolius. Field experiments compared the relative effect of manganese applied in sprays of either high-volume (200 ℓ ha−1) by hand-held boom, or low-volume (20 ℓ ha−1) by boom or micronair atomizers from an aircraft. A single application of 0.7 kg Mn ha−1 in 20 ℓ solution via micronair atomizers successfully prevented the appearance of foliar and seed symptoms of manganese deficiency, and enhanced manganese concentration of seed. Twice the rate of manganese (1.4 kg Mn ha−1) applied in solutions of either high or low-volume provided no additional benefit.
