Additional information

Editor's Note: This is the first report on autism from Eastern Europe submitted to this Journal. It presents a different emphasis in the definition of autism from that used in many countries in other part of the world. This report presents a conceptualization of the nature of autism and its treatment similar to some of those used with emotional disorders. Although the Institute of Correctional Pedagogics in Moscow has an important history, the authors do not comment on how their experience with autism at the Institute compares to that of other professionals in the field in other parts of Eastern Europe. Nevertheless, because it is our first report from that part of the world, we thought our readers would be interested in it.Eric Schopler
