Summary

Cobalt(III) complexes of the type [Co(en)2Chel]X [en=ethlenediamine; Chel=(ox)=oxalato anion, X=Cl, Br and I; Chel=CO 2−3 , X=Cl, Br, I and NO 3 ] and (±)K[Co(edta)]·2H2O (edta=ethylenediaminetetracetato anion) have been investigated for their bacterial activity againstEscherichia coli B using well-cultured techniques on EMB plates and in minimal glucose media.

Activities decrease in the order:

$$\begin{gathered} [Co(en)_2 Co_3 ]I > [Co(en)_2 (ox)]I > \hfill \\ [Co(en)_2 (ox)]Cl \cdot H_2 O > K( - )[Co(edta)] \cdot 2H_2 O > \hfill \\ [Co(en)_2 Co_3 ]NO_3 \cdot 2H_2 O > [Co(en)_2 Co_3 ]Cl > \hfill \\ [Co(en)_2 (ox)]Br \cdot H_2 O > [Co(en)_2 Co_3 ]Br. \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$
