Summary
During 1983 and 1984 50 samples of fish from the upper section of the river Neckar were analysed for organochloro compounds. 52% of the samples exceeded the legal tolerance level of hexachlorobenzene (HCB). The residue levels of HCB as well as octachlorostyrene and pentachlorobenzene in fish increased abruptly in the course of the river at the city of Rottweil and gradually decreased afterwards. This sudden increase indicated a local contamination source, which was confirmed by the results from analysed sediments of the river Neckar in this area. To find the source, further investigations were carried out. In the second communication we will describe how the investigations led to an industrial process, as the one main source which discharges the chlorinated compounds into the river.
II. Mitteilung).
