Summary
Diastereomeric esters of Z-3-methyl-3-phenyl glycidic acid (1), separated by liquid chromatography were transformed to odorous enantiomeric ethyl esters of1. (S) (-) and (R) (+)-3-phenylbutane 1,3-diol respectively from reductive cleavage resulting, prove that the dextrorotatory ethyl ester of1 correlates with the (2R, 3R) configuration and strawberry flavor.
The laevorotatory (2S, 3S) antipode of1 only has an unspecific, faint odor.
Zusammenfassung
Chromatographisch getrennte, diastereomere Ester der Z-3-Methyl-3-phenylglycidsäure (1) werden zu geruchsaktiven, enantiomeren Ethyl-estern umgesetzt. Durch reduktiven Abbau dieser Ester entstehen (S)(-) bzw. (R)(+)-3-Phenylbutan-l,3-diol.
Es wird gezeigt, daß der rechtsdrehende Ethylester von1(2R, 3R)-Konfiguration und reinsten Erdbeergeruch aufweist, während der linksdrehende (2S, 3S)-Antipode nur schwach und unspezifisch riecht.
