Summary
After derivatization (benzoylation) it is possible to determine xylitol, sorbitol and mannitol by normal phase as well by reversed phase-HPLC using isocratically elution.
The method shows high selectivity and high sensitivity [UV (230 nm)-detection limit: 0.1 ppm respectively 1 ng). The determination is optimized by the use of both systems. For clean up a maximum of eight minutes and an additional one hour rest period are necessary.
