Abstract
The parametric striction excitation of acoustic oscillations in droplets under the influence of a strong light wave is examined. The threshold intensities of forced Mandel'shtam-Brillouin scattering are calculated with allowance for the spatial inhomogeneity of the fields and the resonance nature of the interaction. Conditions are found under which, for water droplets with radii greater than 4 μm and λ=0.4–0.7 μm, the threshold is on the order of 103 W/m2. With continuous pumping, thermal detuning does not hinder observation of the effect.
