Distribution of dwell time within given region in diffusion processes

Conclusions

An integral equation has been derived for determining the characteristic function which describes the dwell time within a given interval in a telegraphic diffusion process.

A procedure has been developed for determining the distribution of overshoot time beyond a given level and also the distribution of dwell time within a given region in arbitrary diffusion processes. This procedure is applicable in the case of multidimensional regions, inasmuch as it is based on an analysis of the classical equation of diffusion. This greatly broadens the capabilities of analysis by this procedure beyond the scope of earlier studies.

The results of this study are targeted toward analysis of flicker fluctuations of parameters characterizing radioelectronic devices according to the model in study [4], but they can also be used for other applications in statistical radiophysics and radio engineering.
