Fine structure of the synchrotron-radiation spectrum

Radiophysics and Quantum Electronics Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1)

The synchrotron-radiation spectrum of a cluster of relativistic electrons moving in the field of a synchronous wave consists of lines and pedestal peaks at comparatively low energies. The line frequencies and those of the central peaks are harmonics of the synchronous-wave frequency. This permits us to relate the frequencies of radio and IR oscillators.

  2. 2)

The line phase is governed by the phase of the synchronous wave; the radiation phase of the pedestal is random; and the peak width is of the order of 1–1000 kHz.

  3. 3)

With multiplication by a factor of 103, the frequencies of radio and IR oscillators may be compared with an accuracy of ∼10−12.
