Influence of environmental factors in the production of R(−)-1, 2-propanediol by clostridium thermosaccharolyticum

The effect of the most important environmental parameters, temperature, pH, gas phase composition and substrate concentration, on the production of R(−)-1,2-propanediol, was investigated. An improved yield of 0.20 g R(−)-1,2-propanediol/g glucose was reached when the fermentation was run at 60°C and pH 6.0 under a N2 atmosphere.
