Biotechnology Letters Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

The ability of methanogenic bacteria to adapt to high concentrations of calcium was investigated using a 9 l Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactor fed semi-continuously with a synthetic waste. It was found that a calcium concentration of up to 7000 mg/l had no inhibitory effect on anaerobic digestion.
